This March, The Priory Rooms were delighted to receive a Silver Award certificate from First Mile Easy Recycling; for their outstanding achievements in recycling throughout 2013.

The Priory Rooms, celebrating its 10th Birthday this month, prioritise delivering outstanding services within an eco-conscious meeting and conference centre facility. Over the years large investments have been made to the 1930’s Quaker Meeting House and the 2004 extension to improve the building management system; sensors to control heating, energy efficient lighting and insulating the roof are just a few examples!

More recently The Priory Rooms implemented positive changes to their services and operations to further reduce their carbon footprint; now this eco-conscious building has an eco-conscious team! Popular with delegates is on Monday’s only having vegetarian buffets, biodegradable “doggy boxes” for those lunch time leftovers, toilet twinning to donate latrines across Africa and using harvested rain water used to flush the toilets!

These green initiatives were embraced by The Priory Rooms following Quakers in Britain’s 2011 commitment to become a low-carbon sustainable community, and the exciting challenge to become Birmingham’s greenest meeting and conference centre begun!

Recycling by staff and delegates is heavily encouraged throughout The Priory Rooms; bins are in every room, lobby area and office with signs on most walls! Each week First Mile collects the large quantities of recycling produced by the conference centre. They have acknowledged the incredible efforts made by The Priory Rooms throughout 2013 with a Silver Award Certificate; recycling 2,000kgs, saving 23 trees and off-setting 2.9 tonnes of CO2!

The Priory Rooms Conference Centre Manager said “I would like to thank First Mile for the award and the delegates and staff who help everyday with the recycling campaign.”
