ed-milliband1.jpgLabour Party leader Ed Miliband returned to The Priory Rooms Meeting and Conference Centre this April to deliver a topical pre-election speech to local councillors, Labour party members, businesses and the public. Mr Miliband’s speech was in respect of how a future Labour government plans to devolve power from Whitehall.

Speaking to over 200 people and local press, Mr Miliband engaged with the audience in The Priory Rooms’ 1930’s Quaker Main Meeting House. The speech was of particular interest to local businesses and council members, as Mr Miliband announced Labours plan to increase the devolution of power from Whitehall by offering “combined authorities” opportunity to bid on how they would use £20 billion available to spend on creating private sector jobs. Those attending were keen to hear how these new regional governing bodies would be responsible for major transport and economic development decisions and to consider the procedures needed for a major re-organisation.

Following a question and answer session around the Main Meeting House Mr Miliband met with the local press in The Priory Rooms’ Courtyard taking advantage of the sunny spring day.

Senior Regional Director for the West Midlands Labour Party Ian Reilly thanked The Priory Rooms for helping deliver such a successful event with an incredibly high turnout.
