Swarthmoor_Hall_2.jpgSwarthmoor Hall was the home of Judge Thomas Fell (1599-1658) and his wife Margaret. Through their hospitality it was many years the centre to which Friends turned for guidance. George Fox first visited in 1652 and it was his home after his marriage to Margaret Fell in 1669. She lived there until her death in 1702. It was sold out of the family and gradually fell into much disrepair. In 1912 it was bought by a direct descendant of Judge Thomas, Emma Clarke Abraham who restored it. Her nephew sold it to The Society of Friends in 1954.
