This month The Priory Rooms raised much needed funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital as part of the charity’s annual Big Bandage event. This was the fourth consecutive year we have taken part and we are delighted to say over three days we collected £130 in donations. We also supported the Big Bandage street collections which raised in total £296.

Over several days The Priory Rooms promoted the charity with staff wearing bandages in support, offered cakes to customers and collected donations. Wendy, Clerk to our board of Directors, made a delicious Victoria sponge cake complete with jam made from her home grown blackcurrants. The Priory Rooms catering supplier Just Good Food donated some moreish brownies and sponge cakes too – many thanks to both.

At the end of the week Natalie, Nikki and Joanna helped the hospital’s fundraising team with morning and lunchtime collections in the city centre. They encouraged workers, commuters and shoppers to donate cash and gave out bandages to encourage people to participate in their own way and donate online.

All the Big Bandage funds raised will aid the charity’s valuable work to improve the lives of the hospital’s young patients and their families. This includes their Star Appeal which is concentrated on creating the UK’s first centre for children with rare diseases. This center will provide coordinated care, treatment and support to help to brighten the lives of children with rare and undiagnosed conditions.

Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Big Bandage. I’m pleased to say you don’t need to wait long for your next opportunity to have a cuppa and a cake for charity – look out for our coffee morning event at the end of September in aid of MacMillan cancer support…
