Peacemakers work with Malvern Quaker Meeting

Over recent years, Peacemakers has worked closely with Friends with an interest in peace education. For me, this started in 2017 when I ran a course alongside Helen Porter from the Mid-Wales Peace Project, to pass on skills to Friends wanting to work with their local schools and to discuss the many opportunities and challenges that this work presents. It was during this course that I met Liz Flanagan from Malvern Quaker Meeting and she was inspired to suggest that a bequest left to their meeting for “Quaker work in the Malvern area", could be well invested in providing some peace education in Malvern primary schools.

Liz says “I learnt a lot from Jackie at the Woodbrooke course and bought a copy of Learning for Peace (I think we now have 6 copies). Jackie gave a presentation to our meeting, ran a day course for two local schools and now twice yearly we book Peacemakers to run peer mediation courses. We now work closely with our local schools and in my own planning for the 2 modules I have written, I use the Peacemaker model of circles, sharing and questioning inter-spiced with meaningful and fun activities.”

If Friends in other parts of the West Midlands want to explore opportunities for connecting with local schools, then we would love to hear from you, and I’m sure Liz would be willing to share her experiences too.
