ed-milliband.jpgLabour Party leader Ed Miliband gave a motivational speech to local members about his party reform plans, leading up to the next general election, at The Priory Rooms Meeting and Conference Centre.

Mr Miliband was the guest of honour at the West Midlands Labour Party Conference held at The Priory Rooms this February. Mr Miliband addressed 200 local party members eager to hear about his reform plans in the run up to election. Mr Miliband engaged with the members, sitting 360 degrees around him in the stunning 1930’s Quaker Main Meeting House, and confidently spoke of election success.

Thanking the members for their support to the Labour electoral campaign, Mr Miliband outlined his initiative to reform Labour’s trade union links and to encourage individual union members to become Labour Party members, as a means of creating a mass membership political party leading up to the next election.

Following a question and answer session around the Main Meeting House, Mr Miliband met with the local press in The Priory Rooms Atrium. It was here he dismissed the decision of Deidre Kelly, from Channel Four’s Benefits Street, to challenge the seat of the current Labour MP for Ladywood. In addition, Mr Miliband pledged a benefits system which will work with the private sector to create jobs.

During his afternoon at The Priory Rooms Mr Miliband took time to greet Conference Centre Manager Andrew Callan, sample the fair trade freshly filtered coffee and have a brief tour of the venue.

Senior Regional Director for the West Midlands Labour Party Ian Reilly thanked The Priory Rooms for helping deliver such a successful event with the Main Meeting House being an ideal space for debates and conferences.
